To type left to write across the longest width of the label (as if the page was layed out horizontally) hopefully you have a version of MS Word that allows you to change text direction. In Word 2010 I chose the "Layout" tab from the top bar when Word is open with the label template showing (by default the "Layout" tab is on the same line as "Home" but all the way to the right), then under that, to the right, you'll see the "Alignment" box with "Text Direction". Click on the one that makes you happy. I tried what others suggested to play with the page layout to make the whole sheet horizontal but it never worked cleanly. Hope this helped.

A few easy steps and you'll be ready to do this operation.
1) Open Template in Word
2) Print as PDF (in Print dialog box choose print as file or select the PDF option if it gives it to you)
3) Open the PDF using Photoshop

Make sure you view as Inches and not pixels and also be sure that you choose "Media Box" in the options window
The reason to open as Inches is so that you can see that it opens correctly at 8.5 x 11

Hope this helps
