Questions & Answers for AVERY Business Card - Wide, 10 per sheet

Question

Completely unhappy... your templates will not line up for proper printing to match your perferations... why?

I tried the in design template, and the photoshop template.

Both don't work. I went thru 6 sheets to try to get the perforations to line up. I have CS2 and CS4. nothing works. waste of money. This is the 3rd time I've tried your templates in 8 years. Each time hasn't worked. Why all the hype when your product clearly doesn't work properly... ?

Wow, Avery...your staff really ought to recognize the designations for versions of Adobe's Creative Suite.

As to the question, it sounds like most of you are having hardware issues. The templates are measurement-exact, but most people are not aware that printers shift. Every printer is different, and the cheaper (and/or older) the machine is, the more likely it is to be off-measurement (and/or skew). High-end machines that use Fiery control software include detailed Image Shift capability, but for the typical user, manually adjusting the image is the only control you have. So, when your first sheet comes out too far in one direction, measure it with the most accurate ruler you have. Shift your entire template image the opposite direction by that amount. Try again. Even in a print shop, sometimes trial and error is the only way to solve that problem. Also (for those getting cut off), remember that margins are your friend. For a business card, 1/4 inch is a good margin; certainly no less than 3/16 inch. Even the high-end machines have a certain amount of variance, and if you're cutting it too close to the edge, you're always going to have problems.

I think I may have a solution. The biggest problem I had was that what was printed was being lined up higher on the sheet than what was on my screen. To fix this, I simply unlocked the "Guiders" layer (On top menu go to Window > Layers), selected the "Guides" image and moved it down 3/32nds (0.09375) of an inch. Everything lined up perfectly then.

There is no answer to the the above question. Plain and simple - the Avery templates DO NOT WORK. THEY ARE JUNK. I used the same programs, InDesign and Photoshop CS3 and the template shifted after every page printed. Oh by the way, for the Avery gurus, CS2, CS3 and CS4 reference the version of InDesign and Photoshop and other product of the Adobe design suite. AGAIN, YOUR TEMPLATES FOR YOUR LABELS ARE JUNK.

CS2 and CS4 are not Avery product numbers. If you are having trouble with InDesign and Photoshop templates, I suggest using Avery Design & Print Online at www.avery.com/print.

If you have an image saved on your computer that you want to use, choose Insert then Picture and browse to find the file. To make it easier to move the image around, in Picture Tools, choose Text Wrapping and click on In front of Text. Then you can click and drag the image to the position you want. Look in our Help section if you want to learn more about formatting

For best results use the templates available through www.Avery.com/Templates and through Avery design software at www.Avery.com/Software. The templates are created according to the specifications of the products and there is no need to change or adjust them. You may want to calibrate your printer and do a test page prior to printing on the product. For additional Printing Tips please see the Avery Help Center at www.Avery.com/HelpCenter.

Question

Why isn't there a template for glossy two side printable clean edge business cards 8859?

The package with the business cards says use template #8859 but there is no such template that I can find in the avery.com templates. There seems to be a 3 rd party 'wide business cards' template that's compatible but awkward to use. I would like to be provided with the link to download the real avery template for the Glossy two side printable Clean Edge busines cards template 8859. I've already wasted 2 of the 10 sheets trying the closest template in the print shop (8879) which didn't work because of the difference in the margins.
