organizing file cabinet

As a small historical society we have a large collection of newspaper prints and photos. We have started to break them down into categories so these items are accessible for research. We have hanging folders and clear pack for individual storage. What type of labels should we use and how should we lable them.

I haven't done this, so it's just my suggestion. If you're sticking with a paper-only system, I would first decide how people will usually look for an item. By date? By location? And use that as the primary sort, breaking down from there. If possible, I would really recommend cataloging the items in a computer database, assigning keywords to each document. Then each item can have a unique ID number/code, and they can be filed in numerical order. People can search for say, "1940, library, fire" and find any records with those keywords. They choose the one they want, take the ID number, and could go right to that file number for the item. You can use certain characters in the number for categorizing, and use removable color coding dots or flags on the folder for additional information such as, medium, owned or on-loan, checked out, etc. Hope that gives you some ideas. Good luck!

Question

How can I format the avery template for business cards? The template does not fit within the edges of my business cards

The template is perfect except for the fact that it needs to be printing lower on the card. Currently my name prints on the perforation.

You may need to change the printer settings to accommodate these card sheets. Majority of the time the alignment issues can be fixed by changing the printer settings. Please see your printer's user guide or contact your printer manufacturer for instructions on changing the printer settings. Also, if you are using Avery design software you may need to calibrate your printer with the software and perform a print test prior to printing on the card sheets. For additional printing tips please see the Avery Help Center at www.Avery.com/HelpCenter.
