My experience has been that with very complex graphics (images that the ink may bleed over if using the light transfer material) or if you are using small text that you want to keep extra clean looking then it works very good on white shirts. Just don't make your design to big or it will make the fabric too stiff and not very "breathable", I would not recommend going over 1/3 page size for dark fabric material on white shirts and recommend the light transfer material if going over 1/3 page on white.

The light fabric transfer sheets are created to be used with light colored 100% cotton or cotton blend fabric. The dark fabric transfer sheets are compatible with dark 100% cotton or cotton blend fabric. We do not recommend using dark transfer sheets on light colored fabrics.

Question

After ironing, the tissue paper is not adhered to the transfer at all

I tried this three times this morning, twice on one shirt, once on a second shirt. I peel off the paper backing, place the transfer image face down on the shirt. I lay the tissue paper down over the transfer, then I iron using the cotton setting, no steam, for the suggested amount of time. After letting the item cool for the recommended time, I peel off the tissue paper and nothing comes off with it. So what is left behind is the white rectangle of the transfer (well adhered to the shirt) covering up the image I wanted to have.

What am I doing wrong?

(Not sure if it's relevant, but I've had this package of transfers for at least a year.)

Place the image facing up after removing the transfer paper backing. If done correctly the included tissue paper will NOT adhere to anything after it has cooled down. Also make sure that you have printed the image on the correct side of the paper. Good Luck!

Question

Can you iron on a transfer over a previous transfer?

We accidently used a light fabic transfer on a sweatshirt, and it came out very dark. Can we apply a dark fabric transfer over this one? Am more concerned if it will stick rather than lining it up.

Actually, we couldn't wait for the answer, so we tried it and it worked fine. It's not something I would recommend, but you can do it if you're careful.

Question

Have you done anything to address the problem of peeling off the backing or do you have hints about how to prevent this problem?

There are many reviews with problems with the backing. I would like to know I can overcome this issue before I purchase these.

I hate the backing but it is doable. VERY GENTLY take an edge and twist/pull until the backing rips - BE CAREFUL NOT TO RIP THE PRINT!! I find this is the only way to get the backing off. Another suggestion is if you have border to trim, leave some of the border and rip that, take the backing off and trim that excess border, this leaves you some unwanted border to cut off in case you accidentally rip the iron on.

Question

What did I do wrong???

In 2005 I used the light transfer and the dark transfer paper and had no problems (except that the light transfer started cracking and peeling after one wash). So I am not a novice at this.

I used the dark transfer in my inkjet printer and they printed BEAUTIFULLY!! But when i went to iron them on, the colors faded and disappeared! I referred to the instructions again and they weren't clear on how long you should press down and hold the iron. So i tried my next shirt (of 4 i wanted to make) and decided instead of pressing I would slide the iron a bit and maybe not put it on for so long. WELL!!! the ink faded, ran and smeared!! These are definitely not made the same way that the transfer sheets were made in 2005!! I come onto the website now and see that you are supposed to slide the iron for 2 minutes on a full sheet! not press down like you used to have to do!! now, i am out the money for the tee shirts, the ink for the printer and the transfer sheets and my vacation is in a few days and my 7 year old niece is going to be heartbroken!

It is most likely the INK you are using. Make sure you use original manufacturer printer ink, not refill kits or remanufactured ink cartridges. My experience is these inks do not have the same pigments and can smear and fade quickly. Also let your prints FULLY dry for at least 1/2 hour, longer if you are in very high humidity. I have also found the reverse to be true, if I leave the prints out for a few weeks and then get back to the project, the transfer paper can absorb to much moisture from the air and cause trouble with the transfer.

Question

Cannot get the backing off the Dark shirt transfers!

Avery, please don't say to look at the package instructions, or just put a link which does not address this issue. How many transfers do I have to ruin before I might actually be able to peel off? Very frustrating. Is there a 'trick' to do this? I am on a timeline and need to get this done. And IF I were to be able to start peeling it off, is the back side sticky, or is it just a paper look? It did start to peel in one area, but looked like I was just ripping in the wrong area, if that makes sense. Was not a 'smooth' peel, like it wasn't separating correctly

My best results are using a very thin sewing needle and a magnifying glass or loupe. Use some extra material after you print to test this method until you get use to it. If you get the needle in between the correct layer it will slide in a little, then gently run the needle along the edge about an inch until you can peel with your fingers. It sounds crazy but it can work with patience until you get the hang of it.

How do I print a White Logo for printing on a dark green tee shirt?

The way I would go about it would be to print the outline on your logo, with nothing inside. Or you could just freehand draw the logo as well. Once you cut just on the inside of the lines, you will be left with an ironable white logo. I did some lightning bolts in white with the edges that were left over making a shirt for my daughter. See pic below.
