This software doesn't work with Windows 7. It hangs with no error messages and completely stops working and has to be killed from the task manager. I have problems on a home laptop as well as my work desktop computer. As long as I'm not making any graphic changes, it _sometiimes_ works long enough to print something useful.

Re: 5.5 and Windows 7, I just spoke with Avery tech support. They say that 5.5 will install on 32 bit Windows 7 only. Avery is working on fix so that it will install on the 64 bit version of Windows 7.

My experience is that Design Pro 5.5 does not, in fact, work with Windows 7. From the Q & A here and on other sites, it seems like most people are finding the same thing. Is Avery working on a patch? (HINT: Update the operating system choices below to include Windows 7)

Your software is not compatible with Windows 7.

Editing a text box will crash DesignPro 5.5 every time. When will you provide a patch or updated version? I need this software in order to continue to use existing templates.

Right-click the program's icon and choose Troubleshoot Compatibility -- play with that and see if it works. It did for me (though for how long I don't know....)

I note below they ask what system I'm using, and W7 is not among them. I don't think they';re really up to speed on it.

Yes you can import your own picture as you need. Design Pro can print many different sized labels included with the software, you can start by choosing a "blank" template. If you are unable to find your size label, you can create your own size as well.

Question

Formatting numeric Excel fields

I was printing address labels including zip codes from an Excel file. When I print the zip code I see that it is formatted in a 99999.9 style. Is there a way to format these without the decimal?

Excel has a format for ZIP and ZIP+4

Select the cell you want to format this way (or the whole column or row, if all your ZIP codes are in a column or row and nothing else is in it that you don't want formatted as ZIP).

Right-click on the cell, column or row and select the Format cells... item from the pop-up menu. This will open a window titled Format Cells. If the Numbers tab on that window isn't selected, click on it to select it. You should see a list of Categories - click on the Special item in the list.. One of the items that will appear in the Type box is ZIP Code. Click on that item and the numeric entry in Excel should be formatted correctly.

Please post back if this does or doesn't work for you so others will know...

I got the answer myself from Avery support. In the Excel file format the zip code cells as "Text". Close the database connection and reconnect to the spreadsheet. The zip code now shows up without any decimal.

Question

Design Pro 5.5 and Windows 7 64 bit

There are numerous people on here with problems running Design Pro 5.5 on Windows 7, but I haven't seen a clear answer as to how to fix. We've tried the fixes listed (compatability mode, running as admin, etc) but still having problems.

We've been using Design Pro for several years and have a lot of old .zdp files, and a few with the new format .zdl. The ZDL files seem to work fine. They can be opened, created, etc. But when attempting to edit text in a ZDP file, the program crashes.

solution?

This is ridiculous. DesignPro 5.5 does not work with Windows 7, 64 bit whether you run it as administrator or adjust the compatibility mode, or whatever. It's totally annoying that a well known company like Avery would not either fix this or state so on the download page BEFORE someone on a deadline wastes time downloading the product and spending several hours trying Avery's supposed fixes. I'd expect that in software from a dubious source. All these people here are saying the same thing, and unless you fix or upgrade this product you should warn that it doesn't work with Windows 7, 64 bit.

Avery DesignPro can help you with creating name badges. Open DesignPro and select "Design by Scratch". If you know your product number enter it in the "Item Number" area. Or you can choose "Name Badges" in the pull down menu and browse the templates for the size you need. Once you have chosen a template, start entering your information.
